New Monthly Goals for October 2020
Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

What?! Amaris still blogs? Yeah, I know. I have taken a very long break from blogging mostly because I was tired of staring at my screen. Countless hours of online school will do that to you. Over the summer I wanted to get back into blogging and I’ve decided to dive back in by writing a ‘monthly goals’ post. A few years ago, I would write a post like this each month right at the beginning of the month. I believe my last one was back in March of 2018, yikes! Right now, I have a week off from school and enough time to actually pull together my goals before the month starts. Here’s to change!

New Goals I’m Smashing by the End of October 💪🏾

goals need consistency

1. Practice Chinese for at least 5 minutes each day.

I’m pretty sure that I mentioned choosing Chinese as my required foreign language before, but it’s been so long so I’m mentioning it again. My major requires me to have several credits in one foreign language and I’ve taken at least one Chinese course a semester since starting college. This month I want to be more deliberate in my language practice since things are not getting any easier. While scrolling Pinterest this past week, I stumbled across a Tumblr post with easy was to learn a language in under five minutes. Being the economical time-saver that I am, I was intrigued. So, for the next 31 days, my goal is to spend just five minutes practicing Chinese. That shouldn’t be too hard.

2. Follow a Chloe Ting workout video 3x a week.

Do you remember way back at the beginning of quarantine when everyone was obsessed with Chloe Ting workouts and getting that perfect “summer bod”? Yeah, I skipped out on that trend and instead devoted myself to the short, 25-minute cardio cycle on my elliptical. Since April I have been trudging down to the basement and running my imaginary laps. October feels like the perfect time to push out of my comfort zone and try some workout videos. Instead of jumping right in and doing these at-home workouts 3 times a week, I am going to gradually build up my endurance. Starting from next week I will pick one, then the following week I will pick two, etc. If you would like to join me, she has an arsenal of videos to choose from on her Youtube channel.

3. Start downsizing my Spring and Summer closet.

Finally, the season of t-shirts and shorts is over. Pretty soon I will pull my sweaters out of storage and start walking around the house with layers. This year I rarely ventured outside, like most of the world, but I quickly learned which wardrobe pieces were my favorite. Instead of holding on to things, this month all old and unwanted clothes are going to be donated or disposed of. By clothes, I also mean shoes and accessories that collect dust at the back of my closet. My shoe-size has been consistent since I was around twelve, but my shoe supply only grows. Instead of Spring cleaning, I will be doing some Fall cleaning.

Whelp, there they are. At the end of the month, check back for a goal recap post and let us see how much I accomplished. I am excited to blog again and cannot wait to hear from you. Share your monthly goals in the comments and let’s get to chatting!

I have come to realize that I am a bitter optimist I have come to realize that I am a bitter optimist and still believe in a perfect world with happy endings. Instead of learning how to cope with the difficult parts of life, I avoid them like the plague.
⁣
My optimism also lets me dream the biggest dreams. Most of the time my determination turns those dreams into reality. Sometimes, life throws me a curveball and I have to adjust.
⁣
When it comes to academics, my dreams have pretty much turned in to reality. I love my major, excel academically, and enjoy student life. By the end of next week I will have two years of college behind me and only two more to go.

Before I started college, my Nana told me she would dance and shout on my graduation day. She would wear her traditional dress and make as much noise as she wanted for her baby. But this Tuesday, my grandmother passed away from Covid-19 and my perfect world is broken.
⁣
My Nana thought I was the smartest, kindest, and most beautiful person ever, which I inherited directly from her. Our birthdays are only three days apart (proud cancer women) and we share the same middle name. She loves flowers and gardening. I do too.
⁣
Right now I’m trying to figure out how to do this whole thing. My finals coincidentally all fall within the next two weeks so 2020 really wanted to stick it to me. It doesn’t feel right for me to do anything online without acknowledging this because I sure as heck am not having a merry Christmas.
⁣
For now I am working hard to become the woman my grandmother saw in me and if that means pushing through these next few weeks, so be it.

It’s crazy how one word gives me flashbacks to that video, but “ohmygah, let’s get some shoes” is my motto. Some people buy new clothes to feel good. I buy the same kind of shoe in slightly different designs😅 You can’t show me a block heel I don’t like. Can anyone relate 🙋🏾‍♀️? #shoes
