A Look Back At Summer ’17

A Look Back At Summer ’17
Summer ended on the 23rd. It is now officially fall, but I would like to take a minute and look back at Summer ’17. To be honest, this summer was one of the best I’ve had in a while. I mean, previous summers weren’t bad (except for last summer). However, this summer felt the most summer-y to me. Let me tell you why.
At the end of the school year, my family had a debate whether or not to take a family vacation or stay at home and have a stay-cation. After some back and forth we decided to stay home. Don’t get me wrong, we love vacations. Whenever we take one though we come home exhausted after it all. I remember after we went to Disney Orlando for the summer we spent a few days recovering from that trip.

This year we kept things mellow. No long road trips to visit friends, no ‘go!go!go!’ site seeing; just me and my family. And you know what? It was nice. We grilled outside most nights and just enjoyed the days. Both my brother and I have birthdays in the summer so we celebrated them with a small party. Our birthdays land five days apart so it was no big deal.

For the Fourth of July my godfather and his family came to visit. Cooking started early in the morning and we sat down for dinner around five-ish. Then we headed to our neighborhood lake for a spectacular firework show. It was actually the first time we watched them up close and it was absolutely breathtaking.

Now fall is here. Summer is my favorite season, but fall does run a close second. Of course I’m looking forward to Thanksgiving. Then right after comes Christmas. Maybe the reason why I love summer so much is because it feels like it goes on forever. Anyway, now that the long, summer days are winding down, I’m looking forward to the changing of the seasons when the leaves turn colors and the air gets crisp. Most of all, I can’t wait for the smell of fall spices to greet me wherever I go.
